Bring to Life Those Dead Ends in your Genealogy Research

If  genealogy interests you, at one stage or another you will come up to a dead end. It is  a fact that dead ends are par for the course. However, you can utilise strategies that will help you overcome these obstacles in your genealogical search. These following tips, will help ensure that when you do encounter problems, that you will not end up pulling your hair out. They will not solve all your problems but they will get you back on the genealogical research trail.

First off, do some networking- message boards, newsletters, and emails should  already be part of your genealogical search, you should lean on them even more in the case that you have hit a dead end. If this happens you should never further isolate yourself, by cutting off those who may be able to help in your genealogy search. Use the Genealogy net boards and email people,  you are adding more intellectual horsepower to the process, which is a great thing, isn't it?. If you do not already belong to internet message boards or family tree emailing lists, you should do so immediately. They will help you with your research, provide added support in tough times, and can even offer you advice on new strategies for discovering new information

Another plan for beating your genealogical road block is to go back over everything you have already done in your family tree search. Have you covered all of your bases. You will avoid disappointment,  when you realize that you spent months contemplating a problem you should have resolved in the first five minutes. Many sites and books on genealogy offer checklists for just this particular issue. They help you to make sure you have done all of the most logical steps, you can take to solve the problem you are experiencing. Review some of your how-to genealogy books or pamphlets to make sure you didn't get careless and skip over a step that could get you out of the predicament you have landed in

As a last resort , you can hire a professional genealogist. Although for most tracing your family tree is a hobby, there are times when you should consider hiring a Genealogist .If you do find yourself looking at this option, there are websites that will tell you when you should and should not consider hiring a professional. Read all of the information and you still think hiring a Genealogist is the right thing to do, then make sure you do serious research on who to hire and how to hire them. Look for personal recomendation on family tree boards, and Irish family tree resources,. With all of the supposed professional genealogists out there, you should always make sure that you are getting a legitimate one that will actually help you overcome your obstacles. Check if they have professional qualifications, such as the Masters in Genealogy studies, that Trinity college provides.

Lastly, you can always just put the problem aside for a while, it may sound odd, but giving time, to bring a fresh perspective to your family tree research, can make the world of difference. Work on another part of your family tree or another portion of your genealogy project for a while and just forget about your dead end.

Genealogy can be a lot of fun and a great hobby. However, when you hit those inevitable family tree dead ends, it can be terribly frustrating .. If you find that you have hit a dead end, then you need to know how to handle it. By following the advice outlined here, you will be able to overcome the majority of these family tree problems. However, there are times that a dead end is a dead end, so just follow these tips and do the best you can, and good luck.
